2000s: A Musical Retrospective in Real Time: Durlin Lurt

February 4, 2010

In keeping with the style of the last “Musical Retrospective”, I’m continuing with another alternative hip-hop find from the past decade.

T is for trippy and Durlin Lurt’s 2008 Him Jenson is definitely trippy. Under all the distorted buzzing and layers of mangled samples are some great head-bob inducing beats. Twisting and manic at times Lurt does mix in some stuff that is more on the chill-out side. Be warned though, the album is more on the noisy side. The tracks “Peace” and “Vibrate” are almost nightmarish in tone. The album is pretty sick and an awesome example of creative use of sounds and samples.

You can check out the track “Understand” over at Leaving Records’ website and if you dig what you hear then they’re offering the album for download at the awesome price of FREE!
